“The intimate act of tying a tie, on a man who is not yours to be intimate with.”
When I worked at the haberdashery, the most awkward moments of my day were when I was helping gentleman put on their ties or showing them how to tie a bow tie (to this day, I’m better at tying knots on others than I am on myself). The most vital thing was to not make eye contact and to pretend that the mere inches between our faces were actually yards. I tended to hold my breath entirely.
